Stuart

Sunset Bay Marina is one of the nicer marinas we have experienced this trip. Great facilities with a good restaurant and coffee shop on the premises. Linda and John came over and took us to a great outdoor restaurant for dinner. After dinner, we toured their house to see all the beautiful remodeling they have done. We had planned to stay in Stuart for two days but the St Augustine delay curtailed our plans. After one night, we will be on to Clewiston, one of the only marinas on Okeechobee. Two locks and one more night on the water and we will be home!

Vero Beach

Our plans were to go to Melbourne but travel was good with calm waters so we went on to Vero Beach. The marina we stayed at was in a residential community. Nice docks but not much around. Fortunately, there was a restaurant in the development and we had a great grouper sandwich lunch. We rode our bikes to the Publix. It was supposed to be one mile but it was about half a mile to get off the docks and another mile just to get to the entrance to the development. We got back just in the time for the rain.

St Augustine

Our plans were to spend two days in St Augustine but Eta caused us to make adjustments and we ended up staying for a week. If you must be stranded, this was a pretty nice place to be. In order for the marina to accommodate our extension, we had to move to a slip closer to land. This worked out great since we met several people passing by our boat. There was a SW Florida yachting group with five boats on a rendezvous. They invited us to join their club. We ran into another Annapolis couple who winter at Legacy and Marathon. They asked to go to dinner. We were getting bored by the end of our stay so we went to the Medieval Torture Museum which was pretty creepy. There were displays of various torture devices and explanations of when they were used. I’m not sure this would be high on my list for recommendations but we had already been to most ot the other historic sites.

Jekyll Island

We spent two days at Jekyll Island. This is always one of my favorite stops. The scenery is beautiful and the biking is great with minimal road traffic and good bike trails. Chester and Rae were camping here so we were able to enjoy dinner with them both nights.
